Locally Sourced Ingredients

The four ingredients in this balm are local to where I live, sourced within 50 miles of my home. Each comes from a responsible, small scale independent producer & I make the birch oil myself.

Tallow
Rapeseed Oil
Bees wax
Birch Oil

This recipe is based on knowledge and ingredients used at the tanneries from the finishers and curriers -They use tallow at the end of the tanning process to feed natural oils back to the leather. Birch tar oil is a very old and secret ingredient used in the finishing process, it has a deep and smokey smell. Bees wax is used to add water proofing and rapeseed oil helps to push all these ingredients deep into the fibres of the leather.

Not an avocado, sweet almond or jojoba in sight, also no paraffins or petroleum’s. This is what leather conditioners on the market are full of. There is no need to be using ingredients from the other side of the world, and definitely no need to be using harsh chemicals that rot stitching.
